eagle scouts

Liam Hanway and Gavin VanEtten, seniors at Stamford Central School, have earned the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout — the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America.

Both chose to dedicate their community service projects to the Michael Kudish Nature Preserve in Stamford, reflecting their commitment to environmental stewardship and local engagement.

Liam, who serves as an educational assistant at the Preserve during the summer, designed and built a large interactive display showcasing the wingspans of five different bird species. Visitors can compare their own arm spans to those of the birds, making it a fun and educational experience for all ages.

Gavin constructed a gateway at the entrance of the Preserve, which helps regulate traffic flow and protect the integrity of the natural space.

We are incredibly proud of these young men and their meaningful contributions to our community. Their dedication, leadership, and hard work exemplify the values of Scouting and the spirit of service.
